Hostel Highlights for September

The House —

It has been a busy, but great, term here at the Hostel

We have enjoyed many activities throughout the term, such as NZ Boarding Week, Lip Sync and the meet-up with Thomas House. With Practice Exam week thrown into the middle of the term, the Seniors got stuck into studying, ensuring that their academic results were where they needed to be. Although it has been an incredibly busy term, Annie and I are proud of our boarders for maintaining their positive attitudes, and it is great to see them enjoy themselves in their respective activities.

Blokes Night

On the 8th September, we celebrated Father’s Day by hosting a Blokes Night, where Dads (and Grandads) worked together to build bikes for charity, before enjoying a good hearty meal of a pie/sausage, potato and peas. Thank you to those who came and helped us build bikes.

Table Tennis

We have been lucky enough to have an outdoor Tennis Table donated to us by an TGHS Old Girl, Jo Macgregor. This has been recently installed, and the girls/staff are overjoyed to have it there. Many girls have already started to use it, and we expect more fierce competitions to commence come the summer months.

Practice Exams at The House

As stated before, practice exams were thrown into the mix in Term 3. The hostel staff were incredibly kind and made each girl a study pack, consisting of pens, sticky notes and lollies. Each girl achieved well in her individual exams, and we wish to congratulate each girl on their dedication to their academic studies.

Movie night sponsored by Beauty Worx Day & Medi Spa Ashburton

During Ball Week, we were fortunate to have Lily McConnell’s mum, who owns Beauty Worx Day & Medi Spa Ashburton, come into the hostel and give the girls spray tans for discounted prices. Any revenue she made, she kindly donated to the hostel, so we are able to host a movie night for the hostel, thanks to her contribution.

Lip Sync

This year for Lip Sync we had a Pitch Perfect Theme for the hostel entry. It was a polished performance, with Amber Wilson as Fat Amy, Annie Shearer as Chloe, and Amelia Geary as Audrey. Hostel came away with 2nd place, missing out on 1st by just 1 mere point. Thank you to the staff who made a brief cameo at the end, and also a massive thank you to Janine Quigley and Angela Habraken, some of our Hostel Old Girls, who also appeared on stage.

Wacky Hair Wednesday

On Wednesday 18th September, we had a Wacky Hair Wednesday for the girls to go crazy with their hair for dinner. We saw many girls embrace these, and we were excited to see so many crazy hairstyles. Lily McConnell and Andie Hall won best hairstyles for Senior and Junior, respectively. Dinner was followed by a round of Bingo, so congratulations to Sophia Chan who won that.
