I’m looking for Rangitata’s next Youth MP, applications for Youth Parliament are open now!

Every three years, Youth Parliament gives young New Zealanders a chance to engage in politics and represent their communities. If you know a motivated young person who would like to be the Youth MP for Rangitata, please encourage them to apply. No prior political experience is needed—just passion, curiosity, and a drive to make a difference.

Candidates need to be aged between 16-18, are living in the Rangitata electorate, and want to represent Mid and South Canterbury in Youth Parliament. Anybody can apply, whether they’re an apprentice, in alternative education, working or at school, I’d love to hear from them.

Applications should be emailed to james.meagerMP@parliament.govt.nz, along with a copy of their CV and a cover letter (max 500 words) outlining how they think we could best grow Mid and South Canterbury so that it is a place where people want to live, work and play.

As Minister for Youth, I’m really excited about leading the Youth Parliament programme, now in its 11th year. Youth Parliament activities run from May to July, culminating in a two-day event at Parliament on Tuesday 1 July and Wednesday 2 July 2025.
