THE HOUSE UPDATE

Emma Ross and Rachel Tobeck —

Term 2 has been busy and exciting at the hostel.

Winter sports are in full swing so there are always boarders out and about at practice or games.

We have a number of new girls who have joined our Hostel for Term 2. They have fitted in well and we welcome their families to our boarding community!

Prep studies (homework time 7-8pm) has been running well this term with two nights of study at hostel and two nights at school. The boarders come to prep focused and ready to do their homework and the juniors have planned holidays overseas with a limited budget. A huge thank you to Ms Edzes, Mr Dawson, Mary and Sandra for running our prep classes this term!

The year 13 boarders hosted the teachers at their Pink Ribbon Breakfast. Our hostel cook Katrina put on a lovely spread of breakfast foods and we had a guest speaker, Georgina Hamilton who is a managing partner at Gresson Dorman and Co. She suffered from breast cancer and has taught herself to be resilient and not let it ruin her life. It was great having Georgina as our guest speaker. The Hostel raised a good amount of money that got donated to the Breast Cancer society. A big thank you to our hostel families who donated and the staff who came to our breakfast!

Our favourite part of the week is when we get to announce ‘Boarder of the Week.’ The hostel has a nomination box that staff, boarders, cooks and cleaners etc can nominate a boarder. It is great to see all of the amazing things our boarders have been doing as the Matrons and ourselves do not get to see everything. We then post the Boarder of the Week on the Hostel Facebook page so our boarding community can celebrate their recognition too! Congratulations to our most recent Boarder of the Week: Maddilyn Harmer (Year 10) for great work in prep studies.

We are looking forward to a very busy Term 3 at the hostel. Lipsync Competition is always a laugh and something all boarders can get involved with. Our House Representatives are planning a Womens in Careers dinner where we are going to get women in from all different careers and walks of life to talk to the boarders about their career journeys.

A Boys High games night is being organised, and the school ball where the Hostel will be hosting the boarders ball partners and their families to get pictures and a bite to eat before the ball and NZ Boarding week!

We wish our hostel staff, fellow boarders, prep teachers and boarding community a restful term break. See you next term!
