Where are our students now?

TGHS —

We would like to celebrate and share with you some of the wonderful things our students have achieved since leaving TGHS.

Science subjects in high school - Chemistry, Physics

Other subjects - English, Calculus, Physical Education

What I’ve done so far

● Bachelor of Science, a double major in Physiology and Pharmacology at University of Auckland

● Bachelor of Health Science, major in Paramedicine at Auckland University of Technology

What I do now

● Work on the St John ambulance as an Emergency Medical Technician

  •  I work in unpredictable and uncontrolled environments around New Zealand’s biggest city
  • I use pharmacology, anatomy and physiology to assess, diagnose and treat patients with a range of injuries and illnesses

● Also, work in logistics within St John coordinating major events’ medical operations

  • Co-ordinate with different companies and organisations to have medical services available at events
  • Resource staff and equipment appropriate for each event, big or small.

Where I’m planning to go with it

Working towards becoming a Critical Care Paramedic. This involves increasing and widening my scope of practice to deliver more life-saving treatments, as well as treat a wider range of injury and illness that is seen within the community.

My main interests

● Learning about diseases and conditions, the physiology behind them and how to treat them. It’s incredible what our bodies can do and how science has allowed us to alter what’s happening inside of us.

● My other interests lie in environmental sustainability and how we use basic scientific ideas such as pH and decomposition to produce a circular environment from plants in the garden to food on the table (and back).

Advice

You have no idea where life will take you, but it does start in the classroom. Always put your hand up and ask more questions, broaden your inventory of knowledge and never stop asking ‘why’?
