TGHS Cadets in the Timaru 15 Sqn Air
Hi everyone, our names are Samantha Coleman and Ava Hitchen. We are members of the Timaru 15 Sqn Air cadets and we are going to be talking about what cadets are and what our role in cadets is.
Cadets is a recruitment system for the Defence Force and it teaches you the basics of what you need to know to join the Defence Force.
You learn loads of different things throughout your time as a cadet. Some of the things we do are camps such as First Aid, Top Squad, Sparrow Hawke, and Flying Kiwi, you get to meet loads of new people throughout your time as being a part of cadets on courses you need to go on to be ranked up.
Our role in cadets is LAC which is leading air cadet and this role means you are put up to small group leadership activities that will teach you to be confident in yourself and then from there, you will get ranked up to higher positions.
To show that you have the ability to be ranked up you have to show commitment, leadership, and set high standards within your performance, and also wear your uniform with pride.
Our uniform represents the Royal New Zealand Air Force and is similar to what you would wear within the Air Force. The standard of uniform is high as it also represents the ones who fought for our country, the uniform has to be well ironed and cleaned regularly.
However, there is an age limit and you have to be 13 years or older to join.
You will become a part of a really tight family while you are in cadets and you will get to experience things you will never forget. You will also get to experience things that aren't open to whoever, whenever, you like.
