Debbie Waldron —

The Service Award applies to extra-curricular activities only and represents outstanding performance over an extended period.  Factors such as commitment and unselfishness are also important considerations as well.


Hockey

  • Annie Shearer

Rebecca, Alana and Annie have all played hockey at Timaru Girls’ High School for 4/5 years and in that time have contributed greatly both on and off the field. All three students have coached junior hockey teams every year, umpired, and helped at Hockey South Canterbury Holiday Programmes. Rebecca, Alana and Annie are great role models for younger players and are well respected in the Hockey community.


Rugby

  • Aloeet Silver

Aloeet has played rugby for the years she has been atTimaru Girls’ High School and on top of her playing commitments she also volunteers as a referee for South Canterbury Rugby on a weekly basis. Aloeet is an outstanding team member both on and off the field and contributed greatly towards fundraising for the Under 18 tournament in Westport this year


Netball

Renee, Sabriah and Amelia have all contributed a massive amount of volunteer hours to netball at Timaru Girls’ High School either by coaching, playing, umpiring, or helping in any capacity that is required of them. A well-deserved award and recognition for their selfless service and contribution to Netball.


Basketball

Maggie and Matilda are great role models in the sport of basketball. Both Maggie and Matilda referee on a weekly basis in South Canterbury Basketball competitions, at representative level and also referee our school and quad exchanges and have coached school team over the years, this year taking charge of the TGHS 10A team


Kapa Haka

  • Tearia Mana

Tearia and Alex have both been involved in the Kapa Haka group for 3 or more years. Both Tearia and Alex have been role models within this group and the result at the Flava Festival was a testament to their fantastic leadership.


A High Achievement is awarded for outstanding performance in an extra-curricular activity, where a student has not yet reached distinction level. These have all completed at least one full season for Timaru Girls’ High School at the highest level and have been outstanding in their field and in their attitude and commitment.


Football

  • Kassidy Anderson

Kassidy receives a High Achievement award as part of the Football team but she also receives a High Achievement award for Football. Kassidy has had a great year playing in the goalkeeper position in the TGHS 1 st XI and the 18 th grade South Canterbury Women’s team where she was named as MVP at that tournament

  • TGHS Football Team - Alison Harbutt, Akacia Moss, Lucy Jarvis, Antonella Henderson, Hannah Kidd, Fayth Bell, Kassidy Anderson, Hannah Heffernan, Brodie Young, Amber Davis, Evelyn Lyne, Rebecca Kidd, Alysha Harding, Chloe Kerslake, Ava Christos- Pow, Ilysa Payne, Tessa Etemani 

These girls are members of the First IX Football team. The first XI Football team were unbeaten in the Aoraki Secondary Schools Football League that was played mid-week during the season. This is the third year running that the TGHS 1 st XI have won the Aoraki Secondary School Football Competition. The 1 st XI Football team also won their match v Waitaki Girls’ High School at the Waitaki Winter Exchange


Hockey

  • Annie Shearer

Annie Searer receives two High Achievement Awards. One as a member of the Hockey team and one for High Achievement in Hockey. Annie was Co-Captain of the TGHS/Roncalli Combined team who won the Hockey South Canterbury plate final and Jenny Macdonald Cup at the South Island Secondary School Tournament. Annie was also a member of the South Canterbury Under 18 Women’s team who competed at the National Under 18 Tournament and at the end of season prizegiving for Hockey South Canterbury she was named Under 18 Player of the Year.

  • TGHS 1st XI Hockey Tournament Team - Rebecca Kidd, Hannah Kidd, Alana Berry-Rankin, Hayley Mattingly, Annabel Gardiner, Annie Shearer, Elise Smith, Katelin Frear-Hanson, Olivia Carter

These girls are in the First X1 Hockey Tournament team. This year the TGHS 1 st XI Hockey team combined with Roncalli College and attended the Jenny Macdonald Tournament in Ashburton during winter tournament week. The team went through unbeaten taking home the Jenny Macdonald Cup.


Rugby

Hope, Koseni and Kiya all receive a High Achievement award for Rugby. They have been named in the Hanan Shield Secondary School Girls Rugby Team. The Hanan Shield is made up of the best secondary school girls’ players from Mid Canterbury, South Canterbury, and North Otago.

  • TGHS Rugby Under 15 Rugby Team – Anaya Mana, Andie Hall, Debra Finau, Greer Pratt, Heyven Motuga-Timoti, Kate Macdonald, Kayelani Lambie, Lisita Finau, Manaia Edwards, Molia Togagae, Narni Watson, Neriah Duffy, Ofa Falepapalangi, Ruby McArthur, Sarah Peters, Sarlett McGrath, Shayler Lange, Suraya Johnstone, Telila Fagalima

The following girls are all members of the under 15 Rugby Team. This team had a fantastic season this year winning the Under 15 girls rugby competition made up of schools from throughout the Aoraki Region



Netball

  •  Senior A Netball Team - Amelia Geary, Renee Habraken, Charlotte Norrie, Arabella Shelton, Ava Johnson, Sophie Bennett, Tearia Mana, Carmen McIntyre, Helena Shelton, Mea Prue, Molly Carpenter.

The Senior A Netball team had a fantastic season winning the Secondary School Girls grade in the Netball South Canterbury Competition and at the SI Secondary School Netball Tournament the team finished in 5 the place in the ‘B’ Grade.



Netball Umpiring

  • Sabraiah Fitzgerald

Sabriah has had an amazing season umpiring locally, regionally and in South Island Events. At the recent South Island Secondary School Netball tournament Sabirah passed her zone practical and was also named in the group of talented umpires. An amazing achievement!


Golf

  • Annie Shearer

Annie was the winner of the Aoraki Secondary School Girls Golf Championship and was the winner of the stableford section at the NZ Eagles tournament. Playing off an 11-handicap this means Annie is in the top 2 percent of top female golfers in our region.

Motocross

  • Leah Crawford

Leah has had a great season in the sport of Motocross. Leah has recorded top 3 finishes in a range of events throughout the South Island. The highlight was Leah's 2 nd place finish at the South Island Secondary School Motocross Championships.

A phenomenal achievement from our Kapa Haka group, who delivered an outstanding performance and took home the Overall Senior Secondary Section award at the FLAVA Festival! The mana, passion, and aroha the girls brought to the stage was truly inspiring and showcased their exceptional talent.

Distinctions

A Sporting or Cultural Distinction is awarded for a sustained outstanding performance in an extra-curricular activity and has displayed a high level of commitment and a positive attitude


  • Lily Weir - Power Boat Racing

Lily has been awarded a distinction in Power Boat racing. Lily has continued her impressive form from the 2023 season where she had several top 3 places. In the 2024 season Lily was placed 3 rd  overall for points in New Zealand, 2 nd  overall in Nominated Speed, 1 st  in E and F driver of the year and points and 1 st  in E class for driver of the year and points. This was based off over 30 competitors from all over New Zealand and all ages, Lily being the youngest by 5 years and the only female driver.



  • Ellie Pillar - Karate

Ellie Pillar also is acknowledged again as a New Zealand National Representative for Karate

Ellie has had a phenomenal year in the sport of Karate. Ellie was the first JKS Para Karate Representative to compete at JKS Karate World Championships in Tokyo, Japan July 2024 receiving the honorary inaugural medal for Para Karate. Ellie won 2 Gold medals at JKS Nationals in October 2023 in both able bodied & amp; Para Karate divisions & amp; passed the examination for 2nd Dan Black Belt while attending the National conference. Ellie has successfully completed her JKS Instructors examination while in Japan in July this year and has qualified to be the first JKS NZ Para Representative at the IKF (Inclusive Karate Federation) to be held in Lund, Sweden in May 2025.
