Welcome back to term 1 for 2022.

We would firstly like to introduce ourselves as Head and Deputy Head of the Hostel. I am Libby O’Connor, I have been given the amazing opportunity to be Head of Hostel for 2022 at The House. I am from Fairlie and live on a sheep and beef farm. I love all sports especially hockey, cricket and touch. I am very excited for the year ahead. 

Hi I am Rachana Shrestha and I have the privilege of being Deputy Head of Hostel. I grew up on a dairy farm in Waimate and have recently moved to Christchurch. I play football and love giving new things a go. I really look forward to this role and the new opportunities.

On the 2nd of February we welcomed the new Year 9s and they have all fitted in very well and are a lovely bunch of girls. Over the first week we ran different activities to help with team building. We played the Name Game, Just Dance and took the girls on a tour of the school. We walked the girls over to school on their first day, they all came back from school with a smile on their faces.

A week later we welcomed back the rest of the hostel girls for another year with a shared BBQ for dinner. We started running hostel meetings where we went over new rules and announced the beginning of Hostel Representatives. This is a committee of two girls from each year group who will help us with all things from dinners to boarding schools week and will be positive role models for the hostel. This week our prep study programme has also started and routines are kicking in!

We also welcome a new staff member, Vanessa. Vanessa comes from Ashburton and has recently worked as a teacher aide and in hospitality. Vanessa will be working a range of shifts at The House and has fitted in well, we are excited to have Vanessa on our team and hope she will enjoy her time here.

We are looking forward to the year ahead and have already started planning hostel events and merchandise. The girls have had a great start to the year and we can’t wait for what’s ahead.
