Life Education Visit
On Tuesday the 23rd of May our Year 9 and 10 classes were treated to a visit by the Life Education Trust team to present sessions on life skills through live performance and workshops.
Year 10 started the day with a session called SMART$ which focused on how to be smart with money and covered deferred payment schemes, credit ratings, credit cards, Kiwisaver, interest, saving and debt.
The Year 9 session was titled SMASHED, which used live theatre and interactive workshops to engage the students on the dangers of underage drinking. The performance communicated the potential impacts of drinking on relationships with peers and adults, academic results, and aspirations as well as accident and injury.
Then in the afternoon both Year 9 and 10 attended a session titled BEHIND THE SCENES. This session explored the health risks of vaping and the influence of social media. This was a thought-provoking workshop during which the actors prompted the students to explore their own thoughts on the subject matter.
These were engaging sessions with relatable content presented by professional actors in an upbeat way. Further resources and parent information are available online through the Life Education website: lifeeducation.org.nz
Some thoughts from the students were:
“Don’t risk your health for popularity”
“How much nicotine is in a vape pod”
“You actually don’t know what you are breathing in when you vape”
