Staff Farewells
Timaru Girls' say goodbye to three amazing staff.
Mrs Simone King resigned from her position of counsellor earlier this year after having been on maternity leave. Mrs King started her time at TGHS as an English teacher back in 2010. She then had a spell away from TGHS and after re-training, returned, to take up the position of school counsellor in 2016. Mrs King has been a vital resource in providing guidance and support to many of our students over the years. During her time with us, she has filled in as a Year 9 dean, she has been the teacher in charge of the teen parent study group and this year she has assisted the Senior Leadership Team since Term 2, for which we have been so grateful. We wish Mrs King all the best with her future endeavours and we thank her for her contribution to our school community.
Ms Michelle Mitchell joined us in August 2020 on a fixed term contract filling in for our counsellor (who was on maternity leave). In that time, she has done a fantastic job. Ms Mitchell has made authentic connections with many of our students, and the advice and guidance that she has provided them in the past 15 months has been superb. Ms Mitchell has been a supportive, positive staff member. She has always put up her hand to help out in any way that she can, and she very quickly made strong links to the hostel – assisting the girls in any way that she could. Ms Mitchell has accepted a permanent position working with Adventure Development. We are pleased that she will continue working with teenagers, as we have seen what a natural she is in this space. We wish Ms Micthell all the very best for the future and we thank her for the wonderful job that she has done supporting both our staff and students.
Miss Georgia Guilford has been our teacher of Design and Visual Communication and Digital Technology since 2018. She came to us as a first year teacher straight out of Teachers’ College. In her time with us, Miss Guilford has grown into a very competent, strong teacher. Many students have produced fantastic work under Miss Guilford’s tutelage. On the extra-curricular front Miss Guilford has contributed significantly. She established our Young Farmers Club, she has helped with a netball team for two seasons and has assisted in designing various things for the school including producing our school magazine for four years and social media. She reconstructed an old three dimensional model of our school (which now sits proudly in our front entrance to the main office). Miss Guilford has accepted a position at TBHS and we congratulate her on her promotion. We thank Miss Guilford for all that she has contributed to our school community in the past four years and we wish her all the best for the future.
