Pink Ribbon Breakfast 2020
The Hostel recently hosted a Pink Ribbon Breakfast to raise funds for the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation.
Year 12 boarders ran the special event, they decorated the dining hall with a sea of pink, prepped the night before, the morning of and helped throughout the breakfast.
They ensured the boarding house dining hall was ready for the remaining boarders to enjoy their own breakfast, with lots of yummy leftovers.
We baked 'boobie bra biscuits' which were delicious and showcased that breasts come in all shapes, sizes and colours!
Bidfood donated mini danishes, bagels and croissants for us which was a fantastic help, and we made our own sugar free Granola which was a hit. Pam Seymour, from Sweet Creations, donated pink ribbon biscuits as well as a pair of chocolate shoes which helped us raise more money through a raffle.
There was a jar of pink jelly beans circulating the school for a week with guesses only $1, students and teachers all got in on the action. The lucky winner of this was our deputy head of house Gillian Davis - who shared some goodies with runner up Ms Hales.
A highlight for everyone was hearing Liz Watson talk about her journey with breast cancer, which led to her amazing work in fundraising and adventures with the Tranz Alpine Scooter Safari. On Liz's first ride she solely raised $10k, and this year alone the Scooter Safari has raised over $90k for the Cancer Society. Her enthusiasm and positivity was felt throughout the room.
It's incredible to see so many people supporting such worthy causes during what is a tough year emotionally and financially.
We are proud to say our efforts over the last few weeks, and the support of guests and anonymous donors, has helped us raise $1000 for Breast Cancer research.
Thank you to everyone involved.
