Duke of Ed

Renee Habraken Yr10 —

On the 24th of September a group of year ten students went to Lindisfarne to learn all about our upcoming Duke of Ed tramps which contribute to our bronze award as well as silver and gold.

On the first day we set up our tents, went on a short hill tramp, practised cooking our dinner on the gas stove, and learnt about what we should take in our packs.

The night was cold and most people did not have a very good sleep.

In the morning as everyone woke up, the air was freezing and everything was very damp and chilly.

After breakfast we got into learning about mapping and first aid. We planned our next trip, which we are walking 21 kilometres in two days around the back of Mt Somers and we had to work out things like altitude and distance.

After our lunch we learned about river crossing and after practising on the driveway, we headed out to the river nearby and practised with and without packs.

We thoroughly enjoyed the camp and thank all the teachers who helped us out.
