National Secondary School Cross Country
Was recently held in Timaru with more than 800 students made up from 134 secondary schools from all over New Zealand, and even the world with the inclusion of some runners from America who were touring New Zealand. This is the first time since 1988 that the Nationals have been held in South Canterbury with the local organisers putting on a fantastic event for these students.
The highlight of the day was the performance of Year 10 student Hannah Prosser. Hannah broke away early in the first lap and never looked like giving up her lead on the way to winning the Junior Girls' race and the National title. Amazing effort from Hannah who deserves all of the accolades that have come here way. She is one determined, focused young lady who puts so much in to her sport.
Special mention to Year 9 student Frayah Macdonald who finished in 51st place in the Year 9 girls' race and was the 2nd South Canterbury runner home and to Georgia Prosser who was competing in the Senior Girls' race. Georgia finished in 76th place in a big field of 115 runners and was the 1st South Canterbury runner home.
