This season the Senior A Basketball team won the Aoraki Secondary School Senior Girls Tournament, they were winners of the South Canterbury Basketball Senior Girls Competition, they were runners up of the South Canterbury Senior Women’s Competition and placed fourth in the Southern Cup Secondary School Girls tournament.

The first XI Football team were unbeaten in the Aoraki Secondary Schools Football League that was played mid-week during the season. The 1 st XI Football team also won their match v Waitaki Girls’ High School at the Waitaki Winter Exchange and finished in 4 th place at the Lotto Sportswear Secondary School Tournament.

The Senior A Netball team have had a fantastic season winning the Secondary School Girls grade in the Netball South Canterbury Competition and then producing one of our best results in a number of years at the South Island Secondary School Netball Tournament finishing in 4 th place in the ‘B’ Grade.


Grace Austin - Hockey

Grace was co-captain of the South Canterbury Under 18team and the Timaru Girls’ High School 1 st XI. Grace was recently named as a joint winner of the South Canterbury Under 18 Women’s Player of the Year.


Emma Campbell - Swimming

Emma has had another strong season representing Timaru Girls’ High School at the Aoraki, South Island and NZ Secondary School Swimming Championships. At the recent NZ Secondary School Swimming Championships Emma had top 15 placings and achieved numerous personals bests.


Taylah Crawford - Trap Shooting

Taylah has produced some outstanding results in the sport of Clay Target Shooting. With 1st , 2nd and 3rd places in the single rise, single barrel and points score at the Aoraki Secondary School Championships this was then followed up with a 3rd placing at the South Island Secondary School Championships competing against 116 other competitors.


Casey Gubb - Equestrian

Following a very successful show jumping season winning the NZ national title 1.10-1.20 pony championship in the Canterbury Cup and Hussy Paint and Panel pony mini prix series over the South Island, Casey was selected to represent NZ and recently travelled to Brazil for the South American leg of 2023 Global Amateur tour. In Brazil, Casey finished 2nd in 1.20m, 6th in 1.10m, 1st Overall Foreign Rider and 9th Overall Rider (out of 110 riders).


Maggie Macdonald - Basketball

Maggie has had another great year on the basketball court in the rep and school space. Maggie was named the most valuable player in the South Canterbury Basketball Junior Girls Competition.


Tearia Mana - Netball

Tearia has performed strongly in netball this season for both South Canterbury and Timaru Girls’ High School. At the South Island Secondary School Tournament Tearia was named in the talented players team for the B Grade.

Tiah, Isabelle and Via have been involved in two significant productions for Timaru Girls’ High School.They made a valuable contribution in their roles for both Chicago and Little Shop of Horrors.They are to be commended for the quality of their performance and their commitment to the Arts at our school.

Hope, Bailee and Kiya have been named in the Hanan Shield Secondary School Girls Rugby Team. The Hanan Shield is made up of the best secondary school girls’ players from Mid Canterbury, South Canterbury, and North Otago.


Frayah Macdonald - Basketball and Ruby

Frayah was named in the Hanan Shield Secondary School Girls Rugby Team. The Hanan Shield is made up of the best secondary school girls’ players from Mid Canterbury, South Canterbury, and North Otago.

Frayah has also continued her great form in 2023 and was named the most valuable player in the South Canterbury Basketball Senior Girls Competition.



SERVICE AWARDS (2023)

CRITERIA -  "The Service Award applies to extra-curricular activities only and represents outstanding performance over an extended period. Factors such as commitment and unselfishness are also important considerations as well".

Grace Austin - Hockey

Caitlin Watson - Hockey

Grace, Caitlin and Annie have all played hockey at Timaru Girls’ High School for 4/5 years and in that time have contributed greatly both on and off the field. All three students have coached junior hockey teams every year, umpired, and helped at Hockey South Canterbury Holiday Programmes.

Caitlin, Grace, and Annie are great role models for younger players and are well respected in the Hockey community.


Ava Hitchen - Rugby

Ava has played rugby the 5 years she has been at Timaru Girls’ High School and on top of her playing commitments she is also on the South Canterbury Football Union Youth Board contributing greatly to secondary school rugby.

Ava is an outstanding team member both on and off the field and is the first to put up her hand to do anything that is asked of her (including the laundry) washing the rugby jerseys every week!


Sophie Watt - Music

Sophie continues to provide commitment and service to Music at our school. This year Sophie organised the school Rock band and contributed to the original songs, the running of practices and the final performance at the Regionals for Rock Quest. Sophie has reached a high level of musicianship in both piano and Level 3 Music

which she has shared with the school and a wider audience. Sophie has made a significant contribution to the Arts in her student leader role; one she has taken seriously as evident by the events she has co-ordinated and run including the School Lipsync, A Starry Starry Night and others. In the past month or so, you would find Sophie at lunchtime playing for her House, Rata, which she has done since Year 9; she has also kindly given her time to accompany other choirs.


Koseni Moimoi - Pasifika Group

Koseni has been awarded a service award to the Pasifika Group. Koseni has been involved in the Pasifika Group during her entire time at Timaru Girls’ High School and has made a tremendous contribution to the group. Koseni has given a huge amount of her own time leading the group at school events and in the community being a fantastic role model for others to follow. From her nominee – Koseni has an awesome attitude and is always willing to go above and beyond in her role as a leader.

Caelin, Samara, Phoenix and Amelia have all contributed a massive amount of volunteer hours to netball at Timaru Girls’ High School either by coaching, playing, umpiring, or helping in any capacity that is required of them. A well-deserved award and recognition for their selfless service and contribution to Netball.
