TGHS Careers Department News

Jo Shaw - May 20, 2022

Check out what has been happening in the TGHS Careers Department!

Become.Me

Our Year 9 students have started the Agency phase of the “Become.Me” (https://www.become.me/#/) careers programme. They have each chosen one career that “interests them now” and they are developing “killer questions” which they will use to guide them in their inquiry. They also have to make contact with people who work in their chosen career to find out further information. It is great to see a high level of engagement from the students in these classes.

Bluelight Life Skills Camp

Emily Toomey (Year 11) recently attended the Bluelight Life Skills Camp at the Burnham Military Base. Emily participated in a variety of physical and teamwork activities during the week-long camp. It gave her a great insight into a career in the NZ Army and Police Force too. Great work Emily!

Gateway

20 of our Year 12/13 Gateway students have begun their work experience placements this term. They are each completing up to one day per week of work experience and are completing industry-based unit standards back at school. We would like to say a huge thank you to the following businesses: Timaru Library, Pet Central, Timaru Girls’ Hostel Kitchen, Marchwiel Best Start, Vetlife, Aoraki Explorers, Ardenlee Farms, Envirowaste, Al Hurst Electrical, South School, Farmers, Nichol Farming, Bluestone School, Talbot Farms, Dimension Building, Habit Health and Cartwright Farms.
