Timaru Girls’ High School Athletics Festival

Malfy —

This year saw the inaugural Timaru Girls’ High School Athletics Festival.

With the Aorangi athletics track being unavailable due to it being resurfaced it gave us a chance to remodel how our athletics day could be run to cater for all students. In 2023 we introduced the Timaru Girls’ High School Athletics Festival held on our school grounds at Martin Field and it was a roaring success!

The traditional events were run, and champions were crowned along with wrap around events being the tug of war, dunk the teacher (very popular!), a BBQ running and a coffee cart creating a real festival feel. Our girls dressed up in their house colours and gave it everything to get their house valuable points.

Form class, house group and the Teachers v The Hostel v The Year 13s v The Internationals were all hotly contested relays creating plenty of banter between these competitors!

The Christine Chastle Cup is always a favourite on the day with the eight fastest girls over 100m squaring off in the one off race. Congratulations to Bella Thin who took out the race in 2023. Bella also won the Christine Chastle Cup in 2021 and 2022!

Congratulations to our Athletics Champions for 2023.
