TEACHER STRIKE
A combined PPTA/NZEI Secondary Teacher strike is planned for Wednesday 29 May.
As many of you will be aware, the PPTA has advised the Timaru Girls' High School Board of Trustees that our school will be taking strike action on Wednesday 29 May, 2019. This means, that if the strike proceeds, all teachers across the country who are PPTA union members will not be reporting for work on that day.
The TGHS BOT has carefully considered the availability of teaching staff and it is clear that as a school, we cannot provide normal teaching services on this day. The large majority of our staff are members of the PPTA union, and as result, we will not be able to run our normal timetabled classes. However, we will remain open as a school (but not open for instruction). We will be able to provide minimal supervision in the library for any students who choose to turn up to school on this day.
We have also been advised by ASTN that no rural buses will be running on this day either.
We have also been informed that there is a possibility that Rostering Home strikes may happen on the following dates:
Year 9- Tuesday 4 June 2019,
Year 10 - Tuesday 11 June 2019
Year 11 - Tuesday 25 June 2019
Year 12 - Tuesday 2 July 2019
We know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike. Thank you for your understanding.
