Netball Season 2020

Emma Hough —

Yay - we made it to the end of another netball season – even despite all of the stops and starts!

2020 was a challenging year for Netball. Covid disrupted the start of the season and interrupted our trials. At one point, we didn’t even think we would be able to play netball this year. We had to play some weeks at Level 2, which were difficult with no spectators allowed to watch and strict guidelines to follow. Luckily, even though it was a shortened season with no semi-finals or finals, the girls got the chance to play netball, which we are very grateful for.

It was a season full of ups and downs and many teams having to play other TGHS teams in the same grade. This made for some tight competition! Well done to the TGHS 10A team, who finished top of the Secondary Schools’ Premier grade after the first round. This is a great achievement, but unfortunately this year there was no opportunity for promotion/relegation games into the Wednesday night competition. Some teams didn’t have much luck in the first round, due to there not being any Grading days and being placed initially into the wrong grades. Good work to these teams for playing each week with a positive attitude and definitely yielding better results in the second round! I saw huge improvements in our junior teams, which bodes well for the future of TGHS Netball.

Once again, we had a group of girls volunteer their time to be named as umpires. Most of these girls are working towards gaining their Centre badge and some have already done so. Well done to all of these girls and thank you; without you volunteering to umpire, games would simply not happen.

A big thank you to all of the coaches, managers, and volunteers this year. Netball would not be able to happen without all the time and effort you have put in. Thank you for turning up every week to enable our girls to play a sport they love. I appreciate all the hard work you have all put in.

Let’s hope for a full, uninterrupted season next year!
