Prime Minister's Vocational Award 2022 Recipient - Brooke Crump

Jo Shaw —

The Prime Minister's Vocational Excellence Awards were launched in 2019, to celebrate the achievements of secondary students who have demonstrated excellence in vocational education. Successful nominees are awarded a certificate and $2,000 in prize money.

The Timaru Girls’ High School 2022 recipient of this year's award, Brooke Crump was nominated for the following reasons:

She is a member of the Gateway Programme and completed both First Aid and Health & Safety courses. She completed work experience with two employers, Al Hurst Electrical & Plunket Electrical, one day per week in Terms 2 & 3. They were both impressed with Brooke’s positive attitude, enthusiasm, strong work ethic, and the way she slotted into their teams. She independently completed the whole Skills Electrical package comprising 10 Unit Standards totaling 25 credits. She competed in the World Skills Electrical Inter-School Competition and attended the Women in Trades Event in Christchurch.

Brooke epitomizes excellence in vocational education so was a very worthy recipient of this award. Congratulations Brooke, we are super proud of you!

Brooke has been accepted into the Certificate in Electrical Engineering Theory course at Ara next year and then plans on completing an Electrical apprenticeship. We all wish her well on her journey into the Electrical trade.
