A Little History
Christina Cruickshank MA MSc was a staff member at Timaru Girls' High School from approximately 1900- 1905.
She would eventually go on to become a long serving Lady Principal at Whanganui Girls' School for over 20 years until retiring in early 1930's.
Now whilst this is interesting in itself, Christina had a twin sister who also accomplished many things and that is Dr Margaret Cruickskank of Waimate. Dr Cruickshank passed away as a result of the Spanish flu contracted while she attended the sick in November 1918. Dr Cruickshank is remembered fondly in Waimate for her services to the town and is remembered with a statue and her image more recently being painted on the silos in other notable citizens of the town.
Miss Christina Cruickshank is in a tennis photo in the entrance of the school hall taken at the start of the 20th century. She is the teacher on the back right . An interesting connection with the events of the past.
