Sports Update

Malfy —

The Winter Sports season has wrapped up for 2022 and we are now full steam into the Summer Sports season.

Timaru Girls' are well represented again in the local Aoraki Volleyball competition with 9 teams playing every Friday night at the Southern Trust Events Centre.

Touch Rugby is also underway with two competitive teams entered and numerous social teams playing weekly in the Old Boys competition.

Our Rowers are also out on the water training hard and have just attended the 1km regatta at Lake Ruataniwha.

It's great to see our girls out playing tennis and cricket in their respective clubs and in summer hockey, netball and basketball competitions.

In a couple of weeks Aoraki Secondary School Sport will be running Junior Tournament Week where our Year 9's will get a chance to take part in sports and activities over the week while the Year 10's are away on camp.

Over the last month we have had Aoraki Athletics, Rugby Sevens, Aoraki Sports Awards and also some other great achievements from our girls in their sports they compete in outside of school that you can read about further in the newsletter.

Keep up the great work girls - it's so awesome seeing so many students out being active and having a great time doing so.

Aoraki Athletics

After the postponement of Aoraki Athletics earlier in the year this was held on Sunday 30th October at the All Weather Track in Timaru.

With the temperature hitting 25 degrees at one point the girls did really well with some fantastic individual results.

Annie Shearer - Golf

In the second week of the holidays Annie Shearer represented the Aorangi Region at the Eagles Under 17 Golf Championships. This year's tournament was held at the Matarangi Golf Club in Northland which is renowned for being a tricky course to tame!

Annie had a great few days winning the nett grade and also scoring the most stablefords over 3 rounds. Teaming up with Dan Poulter and Sebastian McMillan the Aorangi team also finished in 4th place in the teams stableford. Great stuff Annie

Taylah Crawford - Clay Target Shooting

Congratulations to Year 10 student Taylah Crawford who attended the South Island and National Intercollegiate Clay Target competition during the first weekend of the school holidays in Christchurch competing against approximately 350 other shooters from all over New Zealand.

The first day was the South Island Championship where in the first event, single rise, she shot her first ever perfect score of 20/20. From here Taylah was in a shoot off with 48 other shooters to finish in 3rd place.

Well done Taylah
