Winners of the Library Writing competition 2024
Mrs Black — August 8, 2024
The library ran a writing competition last term and over the holidays.
Students retold fairytales in the style of their choosing. This was no small task.
Our senior winner was Hannah Heffernan, her feminist retelling of Little Red Riding Hood introduced some new twists to the characters revealing different motivations for their actions, and Red Riding Hood coming out on top as she exposed the huntsman for the villain he was.
Junior winner was Ashlee Robertson with her brilliant retelling of Sleeping Beauty. Ashlee rounded out the story in vivid detail introducing new characters and exploring relationships and the incentives behind their actions. A plot worthy of a Netflix series.
Emma Blades is highly commended for her dark exploration into the mind of Little Red Riding Hood, journeying with her through the events in the forest and beyond, where no one lives particularly happily ever after.
Great writing ladies, keep it up. There is another writing challenge on the way.
