Jo Shaw — August 8, 2024
Anabelle Johnston, Amy Scannell and Lydia Cleghorn attended this practical day run on a dairy farm in Otaio.
NextGen Dairy offered this taster day for students interested in Dairy Farming. Students learnt about the latest technology and systems set up on Gregan farms. Fonterra and Farm source provided rural reps to help run activities and students were able to try out how to measure dry matter using plate meters, set up a calf feeder, tube feed a newborn calf, put cups on in the milking shed and learn about the different data sent directly from the cows collars to the computer for stock management, monitoring animal health and improving performance.
Students are encouraged to complete this day if they are looking to apply with NextGen for on farm Trainee Positions for 2025 and it also builds connections to allow students to go afterwards and complete work experience with farm owner to see if dairy Farming is a good fit for students before applying. Thank you to all who made this day possible.
