James Russell NZ Author of the Dragon Defender and Children of the Rush Series visited Titirangi School on Tuesday morning as part of our Book Week experience.

He brought more than just stories about dragons and gold hunting, he brought a powerful message about courage, passion, and the magic of trying hard things and hanging onto your weirdness.

Russell’s transformation from award-winning journalist to internationally acclaimed children’s author began with simple bedtime stories for his sons Flynn and Paddy.

What started as tales about Dragon Hunters, Dragon Tamers, and Dragon Riders evolved into something extraordinary – books now published and sold in every English speaking country worldwide, with his Dragon Defended series holding the #1 position as New Zealand’s bestselling children’s novel.

His latest novel is called “ Children of the Rush”. Set in the South Island, Gabrielle’s Gally gold rush territory. Based on two children who are sent to the gold fields and meet each other, they discover they have a super power.
