Mental Health Awareness Week 2024

Office Admin Titirangi School —

Next week is Mental Health Awareness Week 2024. This year the theme is Community. Community looks different for everyone. It’s about connecting with others to create something together. This MHAW, we’re encouraging the people of Aotearoa to define, build, and celebrate community. Our TPS community is awesome and our tamariki reap the rewards, but did you know that being actively involved in a community benefits your personal mental health and wellbeing too?

Why Community Matters for Your Mental Health and Well-Being…

  1. Emotional Support: A supportive community offers a listening ear and encouragement during tough times, helping to reduce stress and anxiety.

  2. Sense of Belonging: Feeling connected and included in a community can boost your self-esteem and help you feel less alone.

  3. Social Interaction: Regularly interacting with others through community activities can lift your mood and prevent feelings of isolation.

  4. Shared Resources: Communities provide access to helpful resources and information, making it easier to overcome challenges.

  5. Healthy Habits: Being involved in community activities often encourages positive behaviours, like staying active and engaging in meaningful projects.

  6. Purpose and Fulfillment: Participation in community events and groups can give you a sense of purpose and increase life satisfaction.

During week 10 we have a number of opportunities for our community to come together to connect and celebrate our tamariki and their whānau.

Our fantastic Art Exhibition kicks off on Tuesday, 24 September with an Official Opening 5:00pm – 7:00pm at Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery, Titirangi. Our exhibition will be opened by Chief Children's Commissioner, Dr Claire Achmad, a past pupil of TPS.

The exhibition runs from Wednesday, 25 to Friday 28 September during opening hours at Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery.

On Friday, 27 September 9:15 – 10:15am School powhiri to welcome all our new students.

And let's not forget our huge community event - The TPS Gala on 9 November 2024. The gala brings our community together in a massive way and has been missed from our school calendar for several years.

Let's make Gala 2024 our best yet. Sign up to help in any way you can and remember we all enjoy the benefits of this incredible community.
