Andrea Thomas —

Thank you to all our whānau who have been keeping unwell tamariki at home. We know this has contributed to lower attendance recently, which is understandable given influenza A is still circulating in our community.

The good news is that we appear to be over the worst of it. We continue to track our attendance closely and are working on ways to improve it across the school.

We aim to be transparent with our community about attendance. If your child is away on holiday during term time, we will let you know if we have concerns about the impact on their academic achievement. We gently discourage taking holidays during term time - especially more than once in a school year. We understand families need flexibility, but we also know that time away from school can affect both learning and the social connections children build with their peers.

If your family is going through a tough time and needs support with getting to school, please don't hesitate to get in touch. We have a fantastic Learning Support Coordinator and two very supportive Deputy Principals, and our classroom teachers are always ready to help in whatever way they can.

Finally, a heads-up that we will be hosting an ERO (Education Review Office) review in Term 1, 2027, and attendance will be one of their key focus areas — another good reason for us all to keep working on this together.

Ngā mihi

Andrea
