Bringing Learning to Life: Year 3 Animation Sessions 2025
Over the past two terms, our Year 3 students have had the wonderful opportunity to take part in a series of exciting and inspiring animation workshops, led by local experts Britta Pollmuller and Martin Sercombe.
As part of our concept learning around body systems and Voyaging, the students began by writing their own haiku poems—beautiful, thoughtful pieces that explored key ideas through poetic form.
These poems served as the foundation for the animation process, with each student using their artistic interpretation to create imaginative backgrounds and cut-outs.
Guided by Martin and Britta, the children then brought these elements together using stop motion animation. They learned how to handle the equipment, including iPads and professional lighting, and experimented with movement and timing to tell their stories visually. It was a hands-on experience full of discovery, problem-solving, and fun.
The sessions not only allowed students to express their understanding of complex concepts in creative ways, but also introduced them to new digital and artistic skills. Watching their haikus come to life through animation has been a joyful and empowering experience for all involved.
We are incredibly grateful to Martin and Britta for sharing their knowledge, time, and love of stop motion with us. Through their dedication, patience, and passion for creativity, they have transformed our learning experience in inspiring new ways. Their impact will be long remembered, and we’re excited to see how these new skills will guide our young creators on their next adventures!
To celebrate the students' fantastic work, we will soon be hosting a special sharing session where families will be invited to view the completed animations. Details about this event will be communicated shortly—keep an eye out, as we can’t wait to showcase the creativity and learning that has taken place!
