Bathroom Facilities Update: Our Commitment to a Healthy School Environment
As part of our 2025 strategic planning process, we carefully analysed the feedback provided by our parent community. While we are excited about our new Strategic Plan, we do want to address concerns raised in regards to our bathroom facilities.
The hauora and wellbeing of our ākonga is our top priority. We understand that for students to thrive and succeed, they must feel comfortable and safe in all areas of the school. In response to your feedback, we would like to share some of the changes and improvements that have been implemented, as well as some of our plans for the future.
Maintenance & Technical Improvements
Professional Cleaning: Our toilets are professionally cleaned daily, with a full deep clean occurring every two weeks and again during school holidays.
Targeted Repairs: While 6 out of 8 of our bathroom blocks are relatively new (installed by the Ministry of Education in 2024), we discovered that some seals were not replaced during the initial installation. We are currently replacing these perished seals and covering exposed bolts to ensure surfaces are easier to clean and odours are eliminated.
Product Upgrades: This year, we transitioned to more effective, hospital-grade cleaning products based on recommendations from other successful school environments.
At the end of 2025 we met with our cleaning company and the supplier of our cleaning products and introduced a new system of fresheners in the bathrooms.
We are working collaboratively with the Ministry of Education to see if other improvements can be made in terms of flooring or ventilation.
Promoting "Toilet Etiquette" and Respect
Maintaining a high - quality environment is a shared responsibility. We are working closely with our students to reinforce the value of Manaakitanga (Care & Respect) in all shared spaces.
Student Kōrero: School leadership and our caretaker have spoken to students as a group to discuss "looking after our spaces." These sessions focus on the importance of flushing properly and immediately notifying a teacher if a mess is spotted. We have even introduced "target" stickers for the toilets to help with aim.
Tuakana Teina: We are using our buddy class system to model positive behaviour and respect for our school environment.
Our Ongoing Commitment
We are committed to continuous improvement. If you have further feedback or notice specific issues, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. We value your partnership in making Titirangi Primary a healthy place for all our tamariki.
