Tumuaki / Principal's Message

Andrea Thomas —

It's been an exciting journey and our new playground is finally ready for our students to enjoy.

Quiz nights, ice cream buying and read-a-thons - all of these things have helped us get to our goals of putting in a brand new, inclusive and weather resistant playground. A huge thank you to everyone who has helped us with fundraising over the last few years - we now have a taonga we can enjoy for years to come.

The old playground had to be closed for a large portion of the year due to the amount of mud and water that collected in it after poor weather.  Schools don't get Ministry of Education funding for things like playgrounds and swimming pools so we have to rely on the support of our community for projects like this.

A lot of the cost went into things that can't be seen but will make a world of difference. We now have proper drainage throughout, numerous discharge outlets and colourful, safe and environmentally friendly surfacing. The playground will be a Year 2-6 one as there are now lots of play areas for smaller bodies.  Classes will have sessions on Friday to test everything out and learn how to use the equipment safely.

We hope you can along on Friday after school to have a look - the playground will be open until 4pm and ice-cream selling will happen on the field by Room 22.  Tēnā rawa atu koutou - thank you to everyone.
