Kapa Haka 2025

Office Admin Titirangi School —

This year, we are excited to be learning Kapa Haka, a beautiful and powerful part of Māori culture.

Kapa Haka is a traditional Māori performing arts group where we come together to sing, dance, and perform haka, which are powerful chants and movements that tell stories.

In 2025, we will have two special groups. The Junior Kapa Haka group will be known as Nga Kakano o Titirangi, and the Senior Kapa Haka group will be Nga Mahuri o Titirangi.

Both groups will be practicing to perform at important events like the annual Matariki breakfast and the Kotuitui Showcase in Term 4. Through Kapa Haka, we will not only learn how to perform but also gain a deeper understanding of Māori tikanga (customs), history, and culture.

In Term 1, Priya will be taking students for Kapa Haka - this will be starting next week - students need to check daily notices for details. In Term 2, Whaea Michelle will be returning and will continue with practices.

All children are invited to join Kapa Haka.
