Social, play, build, cooperate, lead and friendship skills may not be academic but we know their importance in helping to develop confident, curious and engaged learners.
It's wonderful to see our tamariki participating in such a wide range of activities that foster their growth and development, both inside and outside the classroom. We truly believe in the power of extra-curricular activities and play to build essential skills. These experiences are crucial for developing creativity, problem-solving abilities, teamwork and resilience.
To further support this, our Student Council has been busy! Thanks to their hard work and great decision-making, we've been able to purchase some fantastic new outdoor games for the playground, including an exciting giant chess set! We've also invested in more scooter boards and helmets for our junior students, ensuring everyone can safely enjoy active play.
A very special thank you goes out to Grey from Room 5. Grey independently made and sold bracelets and wristbands, donating the money he raised to the Student Council funds. This kind of initiative is truly inspiring and directly helped us with purchasing these new games. Ka pai, Grey!
We also have such a great community of extra-curricular providers surrounding our school - from Young Guns Skate School, Bricks 4 Kids and Playball after school, to our amazing music educators, Music Education Centre and MusiqHub, Helen Anderson School of Dance and learning tutors that come during the day. We are very grateful to have Kelly Club here to provide before and after school care - as well as an awesome holiday programme. These businesses also support the school with sponsorship and vouchers during the year.
In the classroom, our teachers continue to do an incredible job of nurturing our students' social and emotional well-being. Through the Mitey approach, they are actively teaching friendship skills, helping our students develop healthy and positive relationships with their peers. It's so rewarding to see our young learners grow and thrive in this area. Our teachers also offer as lunchtime activities from colouring in club, pottery, Enviro, Kapa Haka, Chess, Comic group, Rockband, Recorder and EPRO8.
This growth is clearly reflected in the amazing Year 5/6 syndicate tamariki, including our dedicated Student Councillors. They are setting a fantastic example for the whole school. A special thank you must go to Lisa Sparey for her incredible work in leading and guiding the Student Council; her dedication makes a real difference.
Our Student Council's current focus is a wonderful initiative to support Vision West. They are holding a Pyjama & Blanket Drive which will coincide with our fun Disco Pyjama Party! If you are able to donate please drop brand new pyjama's or blankets to your childs class.
Ngā mihi nui,
Andrea
