Embracing Diversity Through Language Weeks and Cultural Celebrations Malo a lelei, kia ora, nǐhǎo and tālofa

We have had three language weeks in a row (Tongan, Māori & Chinese) and the first week of the school holidays is Tuvalu Language Week. This has offered us the opportunity to learn new words in a variety of languages and participate in some fun activities that have taught us about other cultures. Highlighting these Language Weeks is so important as it offers us the chance to celebrate some of the rich cultures within our community. These events serve as powerful tools for fostering unity, understanding, and respect among all of us.

Our community is a beautiful tapestry of diverse backgrounds, languages, and traditions. Each thread in this tapestry represents a unique story, a distinct heritage, and a valuable perspective. By coming together to celebrate Language Weeks and cultural festivals, we not only acknowledge this rich diversity but also weave stronger bonds among ourselves.

I would also encourage you to talk with children about your own cultures during these weeks - it’s such a great time to share your own family's history and background.

Next week is also Mental Health Week - it’s a busy time! We will be continuing with our Sir John Kirwan Mitey Programme which supports mental health awareness in schools.
