Students Regularly Late to School

Andrea Thomas —

We are still getting a lot of students regularly arriving late to school - 10 minutes, 20 minutes - some even arriving after 10am on numerous occasions.

If this is due to an appointment (e.g. dental/doctors appointments) - that is totally fine. But some of our students are continuously late. They miss out on the time to chat and connect with their friends in the morning, which really allows them to settle into the day on a positive note.

Arriving late to class can be a really stressful thing for a child. Added to that is the fact that the morning blocks are our structured times - this is often when vital reading and writing instruction is given. If their group is the first with the teacher and they arrive late, they may miss out on a small group session - this time with the teacher is super important.  If this is happening regularly then learning is impacted.

Last year we had 34 students who were late more than 20% of the year - that averages out to one day every week.   This year we want to see a real improvement in that statistic.  If you are struggling with getting your child to school on time, please reach out - call or email and if there is something we can do to help - we definitely will.
