PERFORMING ARTS - Term One and Two
At TPS, we’re lucky to have a fantastic team of specialist teachers—and one of them is the wonderful Andrea Holmes, who leads our Performing Arts programme
If your children have come home buzzing with stories about drama, dance, and music, Andrea is likely the reason why!
🌿 Year 1 students have been bringing learning to life—literally! They explored the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly through expressive movement and drama, and had a wild time reenacting The Wild Rumpus from Where the Wild Things Are.
🧍♂️🧍♀️ Year 2 and 3 students have been diving into the topic of The Body, using movement to explore how different parts work and connect. They even choreographed creative dances in pairs and small groups!
🌧️🌏 Year 4 students took a deep dive into Māori mythology, using untuned percussion and everyday household items to create rich soundscapes retelling the beautiful legend of Ranginui and Papatūānuku.
🤖🎼 Year 5 and 6 students explored Physical Theatre, using their bodies to become machines—old and new! Inspired by the fascinating world of automatons, they also worked in music groups to compose and perform catchy ostinatos (repeating rhythms) on untuned percussion instruments.
It’s been an exciting and creative time in Performing Arts.
Next term, Andrea will also be working with our junior school as we begin preparing for the Junior School Production in Term 4—an exciting opportunity to bring all their creativity and skills to the stage!
