Day 1: La Paz to Rurrenabaque
We arrived after a very short and scenic 30 minute trip from El Alto airport.
Starting at the crazy altitude of 4060m the flight hops over the surrounding snowy peaks and then drops straight down to the lush tropical Rurrenabaque airport at only 170m elevation.
So much air down there!
We immediately fell in love with the airport itself – charmingly rustic, it’s literally a breath of fresh air in this world where airports are more and more strict and sterile.
With tourism to the zone increasing, I imagine the airport is in store for the inevitable upgrade and the baggage collection will no longer be a corner of the tarmac with lizards running around 🦎 and the café no longer in the shade of a tree out the back.
After checking in with our tour guide Mashaquipe we went straight to our hostel, El Lobo, for a cool off in the pool and then out to dinner to the Aussie owned restaurant El Nomádico. All very well recommended!
