On a gorgeous spring-like afternoon, Kavanagh College visited Te Kura o Te Manawa Tapu (Sacred Heart School), North East Valley. For a small school, we were given a big welcome. Last Friday, principal Mr Paul Richardson and the entire kura of 45 students sang and performed haka to us for almost 20 minutes. We were blown away by the beautiful melodies and actions of the waiata (songs) and the passion that the boys expressed in the haka!

After the formalities had concluded our Year 7 students (Bella Anderson, Billie Fraser, Mattias Ng and Sophie Fischer) got into their work and read a variety of Te reo Māori stories to the respectful and bubbly students. It was great to have Year 3 student from St Joseph's Cathedral School, Jake Lucas, with us for the visit too.Ka manu kā kai i te miro, nōna te ngahere. Ka manu ka kai e mātauranga, nōna te aō. The bird that eats from the miro tree - their's is the forest. The bird that eats from the tree of knowledge - their's the world.
