Dora, Taiwan - Leavers lunch

Dora, Year 11, Taiwan

Nicki Ridden-Angus —

When I arrived in Dunedin I could see that nature is really pretty and also they don’t have many people here, and the air is fresher than Taiwan.

First day at school, I’m staying at the esol class the whole day, and the teacher talked about the school and class, and the teacher found two local students to take me to class and tell me what I'm gonna do.

Here is totally different compared to Taiwan and New Zealand, like their school daily is completely different. The school time in Taiwan is longer than New Zealand, and we just have lunch and we didn't have any morning tea. The students are friendly and helpful to me, if I don’t know where I have to go, they will tell me.

In Trinity I learned a lot of stuff, like I improved my English and learned their Maori culture, and also met new people like some of the Chinese people and some local students.

In Trinity Day, we could wear mufti to school, so no uniform, but we had to wear our house color clothes. We did a lot of activities and we got no class that day. Those activities were fun and they would have some of the food trucks come into the school. They got churros, dumplings and chips as well. At the last activity, was like a house competition. They separated to different color houses and called our house chants, and did the Maori haka and saw which one was the better one. It was different and great.
