Principal's Message

Kate Nicholson —

Warm Kavanagh Greetings

We are in a very interesting time. I, for one, do not do spontaneity so well! But at present, it is certainly one day at a time with changes happening continuously. We emailed you on Wednesday to let you know that we had our first Kavanagh confirmed case, and we received news of a second case yesterday afternoon. Of course, I also know that many of you already have cases in your extended families as well. I need to assure you that we have a clear process to follow, we have a direct link with health and education to seek further advice as required, and we continue to keep school normal as much as we can with health measures in place. I am very pleased to report that mask wearing continues to be done well here. There are a few that need reminders at times, however. Masks worn correctly appear to give significant protection. Students must stay away from school if they are unwell, even if they have a negative covid test.  If waiting on a PCR test result and showing any symptoms, please also remain at home.

Information about Phase Three in schools can be found in the following article “Covid in Phase Three for Schools”. We have also created a Q&A document diagram shared with us by St Joseph’s Cathedral School and we have adapted this to reflect our processes. This is also on the website. For us to continue teaching all our students effectively whether on-site or at home, is the knowledge of who to expect at school every day. Please let the office know about your child’s absence, why they are absent, and their expected date of return – once you have done this, you won’t need to ring in every day unless it changes. We also need to continue to record positive cases of students and staff.

Our hybrid learning is still in its preliminary stages because we only have a small number of students isolating and these are being supported in a more personal way at present. Schools are open for our children at school to ensure wellbeing and positive interactions with peers – this has been a deliberate move based on research from the last two years. Trust that we have processes in place to keep your children safe.

Within this newsletter, and on our website, is a diagram shared with us by St Joseph’s Cathedral School and we have adapted this to reflect our processes. It is a Q&A sheet that hopefully will answer your immediate questions. Please keep this close for reference.

Take time to breathe, reflect, enjoy our daily lives, and put our trust in God.
