Well done to Head of Sport Michael "Precious" MacKenzie on receiving the Gordon McGregor Trophy for Services to Cricket

The following is a write-up from Taieri Senior Cricket Club at their virtual awards ceremony held last week -

"A proud Taieri man. Michael has poured his heart and soul into Taieri Cricket, whilst also encouraging a couple of generations of cricketers in his role as Sports Coordinator at both John McGlashan and Kavanagh Colleges.

A cricket enthusiast who wore his heart on his sleeve when he played, he has given so much more back to Taieri through his coaching and administration skills.

When playing against Michael, you knew his team would be ‘up’ for the game, thoroughly prepared to fight until the last run was secured -tho’ you always felt a run out was ‘on’ when he was at the crease.

Career highlights include 2 first class games for Otago - before they were ‘The Volts’, as well as playing over 200 Senior Games for Taieri, including 4 titles.

He also received the DCA Cup for his Contribution to Dunedin Cricket in 2006-07 and was named Club Cricketer of the Year in 2000-01.

In recent times, Michael has taken on presidents’ roles for both the Taieri Junior & Senior Cricket Clubs. The last couple of seasons have provided unprecedented times and your efforts to always do the best for your club and its members is admirable.

Michael, Dunedin Cricket and all its members would like to express their gratitude for the countless hours you have dedicated to the community game over such a long period of time. Your work does not go unnoticed, and this is only a small way of saying thank you for everything you have done for the game!"
