Uniting in prayer with other Christian Colleges for the Common Wealth

On Sunday the 9th of March, the head student leadership team and our Kapa Haka group Te Whetū Tīrama attended the Common Wealth Service at St Paul’s Cathedral. We were prayerfully united by the other Christian Colleges such as St Hilda's, John McGlashan and Columba, as well as dignitaries from around the city.

Every year there are prayers for the Common Wealth to strengthen unity amongst the 56 nations of which New Zealand is one of many Pacific nations.

Many thanks to the Dean of St Paul's Cathedral, to The Very Rev Dr Tony Curtis for a beautiful service and the delicious cake!

Fasting

Lent is a time of reflection, prayer, and self-discipline, with fasting as a key tradition. Traditionally, fasting meant giving up certain foods such as sweets, chocolate, sugar, or meat. However, today, it extends beyond food to include sacrificing habits or distractions like video games, television, or social media to focus on faith and spiritual growth. The purpose is not just about sacrifice but about intention, drawing closer to God, and strengthening our commitment to kindness, gratitude, and self-improvement.

Below are photos of Ash Wednesday and the Common Wealth Service.

Lenten blessings to you all.
