Kia ora e te whānau
We are back in action, and it was wonderful seeing all our young people arrive back at school this morning. Yesterday was a great start to the year with a calm, settled, happy and very well organised day for our new students from year 7-13. This morning, we began the day with a mihi whakatau, formally welcoming our new students and their families into our college. Thank you to Matua Tim Lucas who spoke on behalf of the tangata whenua (the college as hosts), Mr Hoani Samuels who spoke on behalf of the manuhiri (visitors), and to Therese Tili who did a beautiful role as kaikaranga. I also acknowledge our returning students who took part in the mihi whakatau – great singing and participation in the haka. I am sure that our new students and whānau will quickly feel part of our Trinity family.
Earlier in the week staff gathered together, beginning with Mass in the Cathedral celebrated by Bishop Michael, and a blessing for our five new staff. They will introduce themselves to you via the newsletter over the next few weeks. Unfortunately, we did not have Mr Brent Ford nor Mr Linus Turner with us, with both of them on leave during term one.
We look forward to presenting prefect badges tomorrow, during our Opening Mass. Again, this is a fitting way to begin our new school year as a college and it is an opportunity for our young people to reflect on the purpose of Trinity and their personal goals for the coming year. Congratulations to all those undertaking leadership roles this year – it is both a huge privilege and a significant responsibility.
As always, any concerns, worries, or conversations about your child’s life at school, are welcome. The teacher-parent-learner partnership is key to success and we look forward to working closely with you in 2025.
