Trinity CC Volleyball — November 26, 2024
The Junior South Island Volleyball Champs were held recently in Christchurch, and Trinity Catholic College was represented extremely well by our three teams from the Junior School.
Year 10 Girls (Placed 13th in Division 1)
Following a successful Otago Champs, we found ourselves placed in a tough pool, with our first day having two tough games against Christchurch Girls and Waimea, who went on to place second and fifth respectively. The final game of the day saw us take on Lincoln, where we managed to take a 2-0 win. A long second day resulted in a win against Craighead, followed by two tough losses against Marlborough and Upwey. Playing Upwey was a highlight for us, as they had come all the way over from Melbourne, and it was great to see their style of play. Our final day saw us battle out against Otago Girls, a rematch of our final at Otago Champs. Coming back in the first set from a 18-24 lead had us in high spirits and we managed to take the game 2-0. Our final game of the tournament saw us take on Nelson College Girls B, and in a back and forth game with the support of our Trinity boys team on the sideline, we managed to stay composed and win 2-1. A massive three days of hard work resulted in us placing 13th in Division 1 out of four divisions, also securing an Otago spot in Division 1 next year. Goals were set in place and we could not be prouder of what this group of girls has achieved. A massive thank you to Vanessa for her work behind the scenes and getting us here, as well as Iris for travelling with us and going above and beyond for the team. We hope to see her on the volleyball sideline more often!

Year 9 Girls (Placed 14th in Division 2)
Over the past week the year 9 junior girls volleyball team traveled to Christchurch along with 2 other trinity teams. It was first away tournament for many of the girls, and a great learning experience for everyone! On our first day we came up agaist, Kaipoi and Hillmorton and then Garin high school. Unfortunately the girls lost these games however almost every set was only separated by a few points, this showed the potential and determination from the girls leading into the following days. On the second day we came across Middleton, Rangi ruru and Columba. Each of these games were also so close with us within a few points every set. The day ended with an intense three setter against Otago locals Columba, our girls played with intensity and precision as they took out the first set but ultimately came away with the loss as Columba took the third set 25:23. We came into the third day with eagerness to tackle our 8:00 game vs Nayland. Our girls had a slow start however pulled off a stellar 2nd set with expert hustle and skill to take them to a tight third set. This ended in the most intense way possible as our serves and cheering helped lead us to victory. Our win put us in place to play Columba one last time. Spirits were high as we took out the first set however Columba caught us and eventually took the last game of the tounament from us. We hope you girls are proud of the result you got at tournament - especially as Garin and Middleton were playing off in the final. A showcase of how close every game and team truly was It was an excellent time away and we really enjoyed our experience coaching the girls. We would like to extend a special thanks to Vanessa Clark and Lauren Jarvie who were the backbone of our time away and poured many hours into planning and organising our trip, also thanks to all parents who came to watch and also those who supported from afar, your efforts and kind words did not go unnoticed. It was a pleasure to see the growth and development of this team throughout the tournament as everyone’s individual skill was also greatly improved. It was lovely to coach you girls- we wish you the best of luck for the rest of the school year and volleyball season
