Driving and International Students

There are extremely strict rules around driving in New Zealand for international students in secondary schools - these rules are made for student safety.
  • International students of Trinity Catholic College MUST NOT drive a motor vehicle, except for the purposes of gaining a valid New Zealand drivers’ licence, in formal lessons under the guidance of a licensed driving instructor.
  • Permission for professional lessons is granted in advance by the Principal and requires excellent attendance, behavior, and academic progress to even be considered.
  • Host parents cannot teach their students to drive or allow students use their vehicle/s either - we don't want students expecting this of their host families, so this page is a copy of what's in the student handbook
  • Overseas licenses CANNOT be used by students in NZ high schools.
  • Students CANNOT own a vehicle while studying at Trinity Catholic College.
  • Students, and their parents, have signed a code of conduct that says they will follow the rules above - these rules are strict, but most schools in Dunedin don't allow international students to drive at all.
