Year 12 PE Students First Surf Lesson at St Clair Beach

This week, Year 12 Physical Education students had the exciting opportunity to experience their first surf lesson at St Clair Beach. For most students, it was their first time on a surfboard, with only two having previous surfing experience. As a result, all students were identified as cognitive learners, working on mastering a completely new skill.

The students are currently completing a surfing unit as part of their "Learning to Learn" standard. This unit challenges them to apply knowledge of motor skill learning, biomechanics, and anatomy to improve their performance. Equipped with wetsuits, the students carried their boards to the beach, eager to begin the lesson.

After some simple instructions and part practice on the sand, the students made their way into the water. Despite the challenges, many of them showed great determination, popping up on their boards and persevering through the session. It was inspiring to watch their progress as they worked hard to master the basics of surfing.

With five more sessions to go, the students will continue to explore different practice types, refining their technique and building confidence. We look forward to seeing how their skills develop in the coming weeks.
