EPRO8 - BY FRANCES SHERIDAN AND PRIYA WILLIAMSON

Frances Sheridan and Priya Williamson —

EPro8 is an engineering, problem solving challenge where kids from various schools in New Zealand get into teams of four, and compete. Our team was Frances Sheridan, Emily Smith, Pepper Sherman And Priya Williamson.

Our school was lucky enough to get an opportunity to compete. The first challenge we did, we had to make a crane that could pick up a bag from a pulley. We did this in our class at school.

We managed to make it through to the next round, competing against 6 other teams from our school - building a series of different structures and buildings.

It was a very close third but we were extremely happy making it through to interschools. In the interschool challenge our hardest but best thing to build was the vending machine. We had to use the electronics to make it so it would push the “chips” (bag of blue joiners) forward so it would fall.

It was very hard and we were not used to the electronics but we were thrilled to not only get in, but

Place first!

Our semifinal was hard, extremely hard. We were all tired and stressed, we couldn't wrap our heads around anything. Everything we tried failed.

The countdown started, we were about to get points and make it through. One last bolt. Then the timer stopped, it was silent. Five more seconds and we could have got the points. We let out a sigh and dropped the bolts and everything in our hands. It was most definitely our least favorite moment out of all epro8 we have ever done.

Epro8 was such a fun but challenging journey. We can’t wait to do it again next year!
