KORU TRIP TO PĀTAKA
In week 5, Koru visited Pātaka and Porirua City centre to help support our inquiry learning. Last term we investigated our local environment and the creatures that live here, and this term we've been learning all about Porirua history. Pātaka offered us an opportunity to combine and consolidate this learning with their 'Our Harbour' programme (which you can visit for free down at Pātaka). We had an educator guide us through the gallery, helping us to identify the creatures that live in Porirua, how the environment has changed over time as a result of humans, and how Porirua itself has changed and grown. We also got to have a session in the library, guided by one of the children's librarians. She read us books that were about our local environment and also our local history, with the story of Kupe and Te Wheke. She also explained how the library works and that we can all join for free!Lastly, we had a walk and treasure hunt around Porirua city centre, looking at the monuments and street art that tells stories of Porirua and its history along the way.A fantastic day out in our own city with lots of learning across the day!
