TUMUAKI PĀNUI

Matt Tilley —

Kia ora koutou ngā whānau o te kura o Tītahi Bay,

Tomorrow is a very special day on our school calendar. A huge thank you to all of our whānau that have very generously sponsored from their own pockets for the triathlon. This has included shirts for our tamariki, food, trophies plus extra donations. This event simply wouldn’t be possible without our incredibly kind community.

Thank you all very much for the efforts that have gone into fundraising. The event itself costs a large amount of money with the traffic management fees we pay to the council so hoping we can have one final push to complete fundraising sheets.

I also want to thank our community for the support our staff received from you regarding the strike. I personally had so many parents go out of their way to wish us all good luck for the day. We are very much hoping that it doesn’t come to that again as no one wins on a strike day. As much as all of our kaiako love their jobs, this is an important negotiation for both teachers and principals as we search for conditions to make the profession attract the best people possible. We all want the best possible outcomes for our tamariki in the future so getting the best possible education is imperative. There needs to be a response and we are all hoping for it as soon as possible!

Term 2 Dates:

Monday April 24 - Teacher Only Day

Tuesday April 25 - ANZAC Day

Wednesday April 26 - First Day of Term 2

Most schools across the country are holding a teacher only day on Monday April 24. This is for kura to work with their kaiako on the new curriculum refresh that is rolling out between now and 2026. The curriculum refresh is a very exciting, timely shift for education in New Zealand. The government has allocated schools two each for 2023 and 2024.

We have also had whānau sponsor basketball singlets for our boys and girls carving up the Te Rauparaha Courts on Monday and Tuesday evenings. We have some floorball teams getting underway this term also. No kura looks better with our athletes standing out in the blue and yellow of Tītahi Bay!

Kia pai tō rā whakatā - have a nice weekend
