TUMUAKI PĀNUI

Matt Tilley —

Kia ora koutou ngā whānau o te kura o Tītahi Bay,

Firstly this week I want to throw a massive shout out to all our whānau that have stepped in to help out with trips and events already this year. We had multiple parents at both our junior and senior pool trip, coaches at non-stop cricket, loads of helpers on road patrol plus many more in a variety of contexts! I know lots of you would love to be parent helpers but are in jobs where it isn’t possible. We have kaiako here with children elsewhere that fit that category.

Our Triathlon is arriving quickly so please branch out to your contacts in helping your child get sponsorship. The last few years of schooling life have made fundraising an impossibility so this is our first big request in some time. We are proud that we have many of our community enjoying our kura on the weekends and after school and know how much a sealed bike track will get used by a large number of people in our area.

You would have heard through the news and communication from the Board last night that teachers and principals are striking on Thursday March 16. We understand that this is inconvenient for whānau but I can assure you that kaiako do not take these decisions lightly. Ultimately this strike is about better conditions for teachers and your children and to be able to provide the best learning opportunities possible.  We are waiting to hear if SKIDS are able to be open on Thursday, we will update our website once we hear if they can operate this day.

We are so thrilled with the conscious effort many of you have been making to send your children to school with no wrappers. There is a noticeable decrease of rubbish in and around the school. We really appreciate your efforts and know that it is also very relevant and authentic learning for our tamariki.

Thank you for the consistent and ongoing support you provide our kura,

Ngā mihi nui
