MEASINA FESTIVAL

The annual Measina festival is a platform for emerging Pacific artist’s to showcase their works throughout the Wellington region.Established in 2014 by Wellington based company Le Moana Arts, the Measina Festival is aspringboard for Aotearoa’s cutting edge dance and theatre from emerging Artists of Te MoanaNui Ā Kiwa.  This year's festival features hip-hop musical FLAMES written by Reon Bell and Roy Iro, Directed by Samoan Actor Sepelini Mua’au. Award winning choreographer Tupua Tigafua will also present his latest development of 14 Malone Road featuring Toi Whakaari graduates of the Talanoa Toko collective.As the Measina Festival aligns with Tongan Language Week celebrations, a very special feature this year is LALANGA - Tongan Artists dinner, preceded by a dance workshop with Master Artist Steev Maka from Uvea and Futuna.One of the annual attractions is the Measina Makers LAB. Where emerging Artists across alldisciplines are offered an opportunity to test new ideas in a supported environment. This yearwe have a stellar line up of makers from across the Pacific Islands - Te Hau Winitana, AndyFaiaoga, Braedyn Togi, Christopher Ofanoa and Maurea Varea-Perez. These Artists will also be offering a variety of dance workshops throughout the festival.
