BOOK WEEK IS COMING TO KURA

Ang Strand —

Our 2023 Book Week is in week 4 this term 15TH - 19TH MAY. We love reading and want to really celebrate it!

We aim to have a variety of activities over the week that aim to promote the enjoyment of reading. We are extremely lucky to have the support of Hell Pizza and children are working hard to read books in class so they can bring their pizza wheel home. Each child who completes a wheel will bring this home on Friday 19th May so they can get a free “333 pizza” at Hell Pizza.

During book week we will be:

  • Teachers/students reading at break times (lunchtime and morning tea)

  • Reading around the rooms (teachers reading to different classrooms)

  • Book week quizzes in our classrooms

  • Fun book week activities in our daily classroom programs

Whole School Book swap and Dress up day are both on THURSDAY 18TH MAY

DRESS UP DAY
Dress up day is about celebrating our book week and giving students the chance to create their own costume. We are encouraging students to use recycled materials and make their own costumes/props. Students will be given some time and support in school to design and create their costumes - please see communication from each syndicate about how this is being done.
Whānau are invited to come and join us for the Book Week Dress up Parade and Assembly at 9.10am on Thursday.

BOOK SWAP
We will be holding a book swap on Thursday 18th May (Week 4).
This event allows students to bring in their old good quality books from home and swap them. Your child will be given a token for each book they bring in which they can then use to cash in to purchase other books.
Please send your books to your classroom teacher by Friday 12th May (week 3). They will record the number of books brought in, and tokens will be handed out on the day.

The books will need to be in good/readable condition, suitable for other children to read and, due to our limited space, we ask that you bring in no more than 5 books per child.

This is a wonderful opportunity to exchange books that have been read multiple times for something new and unknown.
