On Thursday and Friday this week our Year 4s and Year 5s went out and about in our local area for some learning outside the classroom. A hīkoi up Whitireia gave us amazing views along our coast and an opportunity to bring Kupe, Mana Island and migration back to the class. Of course a hīkoi along the beach and a stop at Roly Poly Park were a given on the return hīkoi.
Friday’s weather put a spanner in our original plans for rotations at Onepoto Park, so instead we based ourselves in the classroom with some STEM activities based on our previous day out of school - building a waka for ocean migration, suitable for the extremes of Tāwhirimātea; designing a kite for use at the top of Whitireia on a windy day. We still managed to get kids out for a bike around Porirua Harbour too which was awesome. Massive thanks to our whānau helpers who helped make the days run so smoothly!
